Create a workspace
What this chapter covers
When you first sign up for Conma, you create a workspace in 3 steps. Name it, connect the account you'll manage (an Instagram account or a Facebook Page), and pick your management challenges, and you're all set. There are two ways to connect an Instagram account, so the steps split at that point.
Once you connect an account to Conma, comments and DMs are gathered in one place, and Insights analysis and auto DMs start right away. Before you connect, every screen shows a preview filled with sample data.
1.1Before you start
You can manage Instagram accounts and Facebook Pages in Conma. Facebook Pages are connected separately in Connecting a Facebook Page. Instagram and Facebook belong to the same company (Meta), so business accounts are usually managed on Instagram through Facebook. It works the same way as creating an ad on Facebook and running it on Instagram.
You're not handing your Facebook account over to Conma. You're connecting your Instagram account through Facebook. What Conma sees and works with is always your Instagram posts, comments, and DMs.
| What you need | When |
|---|---|
| An Instagram professional (Business or Creator) account | Always. Under Meta's policy, personal accounts can't be connected in any way |
| A Facebook Page and a business account | When connecting with Facebook Login. If you don't have them, connect with Instagram Login instead |
- We recommend a PC with Chrome. The connection happens in a pop-up window. On mobile, use the Chrome browser and turn off pop-up blocking.
Conma is officially approved by Meta. During connection, your password is entered only with Meta, and Conma never sees it.
Have a personal account? You can switch for free. In the Instagram app, go to your profile → Menu (≡) → Settings and privacy → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account, then choose Business or Creator. Your posts and followers stay as they are.
1.2If you signed up through an invitation
If you sign up with the email a teammate invited, the 'Workspace Invitations' screen opens right after you agree to the terms. It only appears if you have invitations you haven't answered yet. Otherwise, you go straight to Home.
- Each invitation shows the workspace name and who invited you. Click 'Join' to enter that workspace, or 'Decline' to decline the invitation.
- Invitations expire 7 days after they're sent. You can't join with an expired invitation, so ask the workspace admin to invite you again.
- If you want to create your own workspace apart from the invitation, click 'Create New Workspace' below. You'll go to Home and can create one yourself by following the steps below.

1.3Creating a workspace
A workspace is the space that holds your accounts, members, and analytics. (If you're working alone, just create one.)
Name your workspace
Name screen on first sign-up
Enter your brand or team name (e.g., Our Brand, Marketing Team). You can use up to 15 characters and change it anytime.

Connect the account you'll manage
On the Connect Account screen, choose the account you'll manage. Click the Connect Instagram Account card to go to the login method selection below, or the Connect Facebook Page card to follow the steps in Connecting a Facebook Page.
Connect Account screen

Next, the login method selection screen appears. There are two ways to connect, and either way connects the same Instagram account.
| Method | When to use | Guide |
|---|---|---|
| Instagram Login | When you only have regular posts. No Facebook Page needed | Connecting with Instagram Login |
| Facebook Login | When you have ad posts. Requires a Facebook Page and a business account | Connecting with Facebook Login |
Whichever way you connect, you can use comments, DMs, Insights, and giveaways. Only comments on ad posts are collected with Facebook Login. If you connected with Instagram Login, you can switch to Facebook Login later in Settings.
When permissions are listed, please allow all of them. Conma needs permissions for managing comments and DMs and viewing insights for auto DMs and analytics to work properly. If you allow only some, you'll see a "Insufficient permissions" message and need to reconnect.
Pick your challenges
Pick up to 5 things you've struggled with most while managing your account (too many comments / giveaway drawings are a hassle / hate comments and spam / repeated DM inquiries, etc.). Conma uses your picks to show you guidance that fits you. When you're done, you'll land on the Insights screen and your workspace is ready.

1.4If you already have a workspace and just need to connect an account
If you have a workspace but no account connected yet, a Connect Account window appears over the Comments, Events, and Insights screens. Click the Connect Instagram Account or Connect Facebook Page card to connect the same way as STEP 2 above. If the account is already used in another workspace, you can send a request to join that workspace.

1.5To connect an account later
You don't have to connect right away from the Connect Account screen or window. Use the links at the bottom to switch to another workspace, view settings, or log out.
Links at the bottom of the Connect Account window

| Link | What it does |
|---|---|
| Your workspaces | Opens the list of workspaces you belong to. Click another workspace to switch to it. You can also create a new workspace with + |
| Manage members, plans & billing | Opens the workspace settings window. You can invite members and manage plans, credits, billing and coupons even before connecting an account |
| Account settings | Opens a window showing your name, account info and marketing consent |
| Log out | Logs you out of Conma |

If you already use another workspace, just click it here to go back. The workspace you're currently viewing has a check mark.

Workspaces you leave unconnected stay as they are. Later, just return to that workspace and continue connecting from the account connection window.
1.6Wrapping up
Once connected, your account metrics fill in under Insights, and real posts are collected in Comments and DM Inbox. Comments are the first to come in.
