Instagram integration
What this chapter covers
Every conma feature unlocks the moment you connect your Instagram account. This chapter walks through creating a workspace right after sign-up, connecting safely via Instagram's official login, and resolving issues when the connection is blocked or shows "already in use."
The moment you connect an account to conma, comments and DMs start gathering in one place, and insight analysis and auto response begin. Before you connect, every screen shows a preview filled with sample data.
1.1Before you start
You'll need the following ready before connecting.
- An Instagram professional (business or creator) account: under Meta's policy, regular personal accounts can't be connected.
- PC + Chrome recommended: the connection flow runs in a popup window. On mobile, use the Chrome browser and turn off popup blocking.
conma is officially approved for Meta's Instagram Business API. During the connection process, your password is entered only on Instagram — conma never sees it.
Have a personal account? You can switch for free. In the Instagram app, go to your profile → menu (≡) → Settings and privacy → Account type and tools → Switch to professional account, then choose Business or Creator. Your posts and followers stay exactly as they are.
1.2Creating a workspace (right after sign-up)
When you first sign up for conma, a 3-step workspace creation screen appears. A workspace is where your accounts, members, and analysis live. (If you're working solo, just create one and you're set.)
Name your workspace
Enter a brand or team name (e.g., Our Brand, Marketing Team). Up to 15 characters, and you can change it anytime.

Connect your Instagram account
Click 'Connect Instagram account' to open Instagram's official login popup. Log in and allow all permissions, and the popup closes automatically once the connection completes. It follows the three screens below in order.

When the login screen lists permissions, please allow all of them. conma needs both comment/DM management and insight access permissions for auto response and analysis to work correctly. If you allow only some, you'll see a "Missing permissions" message and need to reconnect.
Choose your concerns
Pick up to 5 things that have been your biggest headaches running Instagram (too many comments / event draws are a hassle / spam and abusive comments / repetitive DM inquiries, etc.). Your picks help conma tailor guidance to you. Once done, you're taken to the Insight screen and your workspace is ready.

1.3When you already have a workspace and just need to connect an account
If you have a workspace but haven't connected Instagram yet, the Comment, Event, and Insight screens show sample data with a "Please connect your Instagram account" message. Click the connect button in the center to connect via the same popup flow as above.
1.4When you see "Already in use by another workspace"
If the Instagram account you're trying to connect is already linked to another workspace, you'll see a request-to-join notice (for example, when a colleague already connected the company account).
- Clicking the request-to-join button sends an approval request to that workspace's owner.
- Once the owner approves, you can manage that account together as a member. You'll be notified of the result by email and in-app notification.
- If approval takes too long and the wait time passes, you'll see a notice — contact the admin or try again.
- If you'd rather manage your account separately, create your own space with 'Create new workspace.'

1.5Reconnecting after a disconnection
If your Instagram authentication expires or the connection drops, a reconnect banner appears at the top of the screen. Click the button on the banner, or use the 'Reconnect' button next to the account on the General tab of Workspace settings to restore it.
